GB and GiB
GB counts in thousands. GiB counts in 1,024s.
A gigabyte (GB) is 1,000 megabytes, the way a kilometre is 1,000 metres. A gibibyte (GiB) is 1,024 mebibytes (MiB), because computer memory is built in powers of two. Disk makers use GB; some operating systems show GiB, which is why a new drive looks smaller than its label.
Ratio knows both families.
