# A notepad calculator for Windows

Ratio turns a simple note into a powerful calculator. Write a line like “84 eur / 3”, and the answer appears on the right as you type. It runs on Windows 10 and 11, with the same engine as Ratio for Mac.

Each line is a calculation. Name a value (“dinner”) and use it further down, or refer to an earlier line with `L3` or `prev`.

## Why not the Windows Calculator?

The Windows Calculator shows one number at a time, then forgets it. A Ratio sheet keeps every step in view, so you can change one line and watch the rest follow. And it knows things no keypad calculator does:

- 160+ live currencies and major cryptocurrencies, refreshed every few hours, still working offline with the last rates
- 150+ units: “6 ft in cm”, “100 f in c”, “1 gib in mib”
- Dates and time zones: “25 dec 2026 + 3 weeks”, “15:00 London in Tokyo”, working days that skip public holidays
- VAT by country (“1000 + VAT”, “1190 without VAT”), margins, loans and `pmt`, `npv`, `irr`
- Equations, integrals, statistics, hex and binary, colours and `chmod 755`
- Calculations in English, Romanian, German, French, Spanish and Italian

## Install

1. [Download Ratio-Setup.exe](https://useratio.app/download?os=windows).
2. Open it. If Windows says it protected your PC, click **More info**, then **Run anyway**.
3. Ratio opens and is free for 7 days. New versions download by themselves and install when you restart.

Needs Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. iCloud sync, sharing a sheet as an image or link, version history, import and export, Liquid Glass and the `ratio` Terminal command are Mac only for now.

## Questions

**Is there a Soulver or Numi-style calculator for Windows?** Yes. Ratio works the same way, plain text lines with the answer beside each one, and runs on Windows 10 and 11. See [Ratio as a Soulver alternative](https://useratio.app/soulver-alternative-windows).

**Does Ratio for Windows work offline?** Yes. Everything is calculated on your PC. Exchange rates need a connection to refresh, and offline Ratio uses the last rates it downloaded.

**Is it the same app as on the Mac?** It uses the same calculation engine, so every line gives the same answer. iCloud sync, sharing a sheet as an image or link, version history, import and export, Liquid Glass and the `ratio` Terminal command are Mac only for now.

**Can I use one license on Windows and on a Mac?** Yes. A 2- or 3-computer license can mix Windows, Linux and Mac. To move a license, click “Deactivate this PC” in Ratio Pro and enter the key on the other computer.
