[Glossary](https://useratio.app/glossary) › Money and tax # Gross and net price Net is the price before tax. Gross is the price with tax included. Invoices usually show the net amount, the tax, and the gross total. Going from net to gross means adding the tax; going from gross to net means taking it out, which is not the same as subtracting the percentage. That second step is the one people get wrong: taking 19% off 1190 leaves 963.90, but 1190 without 19% VAT is 1,000. ## In Ratio | You type | Ratio shows | | --- | --- | | `1000 + VAT` | 1,190 | | `1190 without VAT` | 1,000 | ## Related [VAT](https://useratio.app/glossary/vat) · [VAT calculator](https://useratio.app/vat-calculator) · [All terms](https://useratio.app/glossary) [Try Ratio free for 7 days](https://useratio.app/download) Source: https://useratio.app/glossary/gross-and-net
